The Missions Movement Unites with the Prayer Movement
Loren Cunningham and Mike Bickle at our annual Onething Conference last year
“This gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations and then the end will come.” –Matthew 24:14
“behold, a great multitude which no one could count, from every nation and all tribes and peoples and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb…” –Revelation 7:9
Recently, Loren Cunningham (Director of Youth With a Mission) asked Mike Bickle (Director of IHOP-KC) and Lou Engle (Director of TheCall) to fly to Kona, Hawaii to meet with him and the senior leaders of YWAM. There, they discussed plans to bring the prayer movement together with the missions movement. IHOP committed several years ago to labor in intercession for YWAM’s worldwide mission endeavors. Now, YWAM desires to only preach the Gospel but to build houses of prayer in the nations of the earth.
From the ends of the earth we hear songs, "Glory to the Righteous One"… - Isaiah 24:16

This convergence of prayer and missions is a fulfillment of multiple passages in the Scriptures (Isaiah 42:10-13 is another nota b le one). From the ends of the earth songs of worship will be sung in every nati on, tribe, people, and language. As the mis sions movement commits to building houses of prayer to th e ends of the earth we w ill see with our eyes the fulfillment of Scripture.
For the past two months of school at IHOPU I have been studying missions. Our textbook for the class was John Piper’s book Let the Nations Be Glad. Piper’s thesis is that the ultimate goal of missions is to win worshipers for Jesus. “Missions is not the ultimate goal of the church. Worship is. Missions exists because worship does not.” As we go to the nations winning for the lamb the reward of His suffering, our goal is to win worshippers for Jesus. My heart longs to see the nations of the earth sing to the Lamb Who alone is worthy of worship.
